Did You Know?
Jun 25, 2014
Estimated as roughly equal to an EF-4 tornado, the twister demolished the wooden London Bridge of the day as well as several churches and some 600 houses. The city had roughly 18,000 inhabitants at the time, but miraculously only two were killed.
The U.S. experiences about 75% of the world’s known tornadoes, but twisters occur in many other parts of the globe. Canada and Europe account for about 10% of them, and they are also reported in Mexico, Bangladesh, Australia, Argentina, and South Africa. Some other countries, such as Japan and China, see smaller numbers still.
