At the end of May several researchers at AIR attended the 13th America’s Conference on Wind Engineering (ACWE) hosted by the University of Florida. This conference is held once every four years and brings together top researchers in the field of wind engineering in the Americas.

Another U.S. hurricane season is just starting up, so it's a good time to take a look at how demand surge could impact losses this year.

Last year we invited InFocus readers to enter the Hurricane Contest that AIR’s employees have enjoyed for the last seven years. Now we are a couple of weeks from the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season, and we’re running the contest again!

While some studies have suggested that continued warming of the Earth’s surface will eventually lead to an increase in the proportion of strong tropical cyclones, considerable uncertainty in this result remains, and the impact of a clear overall warming trend on the insurance industry is also somewhat ambiguous.

Madagascar—one of the poorest countries on earth—was struck by its strongest tropical cyclone in 13 years on March 7, 2017. Enawo made landfall over the Sava Region in the northeast of the island just after reaching peak intensity as the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane.

Hurricane Andrew, which made landfall in Miami-Dade County 25 years ago, damaged or destroyed thousands of homes.

Well, AIR’s first client hurricane contest has come to a close.

It seems like no matter what happens typhoon-season-wise in the Western Pacific (WPAC) Basin, something unique and impressive is almost always a part of it.

As Hurricane Matthew approached the Florida coastline in October 2016, it brought back memories of the 2004 hurricane season that clobbered Florida both in terms of damage and the unexpected spike in repair costs that followed.
