Research and development are the cornerstone of AIR.

Through conducting original research, studying catastrophe events as they develop and long afterward, staying abreast of the scientific literature, and evaluating the latest research findings, AIR’s highly credentialed research team ensures that our models incorporate the most current scientific knowledge in meteorology, seismology, hydrology, climate science, and wind and earthquake engineering. Our researchers also advance their knowledge by getting out of the office.

In addition to conducting post-disaster surveys in the field—wherever the field may be—they attend scientific conferences where they both present and absorb the very latest research in a wide variety of disciplines. They form collaborative relationships with experts from industry, governmental and quasi-governmental organizations, academia, and non-profits, and learn about new theories—often before they are published.

A critical decision for the catastrophe modeler, however, is when to incorporate new scientific theory: if before a scientific consensus is reached, the updated model may result in unnecessary instability in the results. Caution is sometimes the best approach. AIR is committed to bringing not only the most advanced science, but also the most robust and reliable models to market.Driven by the most rigorous scientific process in the industry today, it is no surprise that AIR has become synonymous with “best science.”
