Loss-causing Australian bushfires tend to occur in clusters
January 23, 2014
A distinctive feature of loss-causing Australian bushfires is that they tend to occur in clusters-which can significantly exacerbate losses. Although some 10,000 bushfires occur every year, only about a dozen cause any property loss. In fact, according to Geoscience Australia, over the past 50-100 years, 95% of the property damage from bushfires has been caused by only 100 fires.
