Hurricane Irene

In late August 2011, Hurricane Irene wove through the Caribbean islands with sustained wind speeds of over 110 mph. Irene battered several islands, including the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. During the subsequent damage survey, AIR’s team found that building codes were general well enforced, and the levels of observed damage from both wind and flood were consistent with expectations from the AIR Tropical Cyclone Model for the Caribbean.
