ALERT™ provides up-to-date information and loss estimates for major catastrophes worldwide.

Obtaining reliable information quickly as an actual catastrophe unfolds has become increasingly important for insurers, reinsurers, and investors. Beginning with Hurricane Hugo in 1989, our ALERT service has expanded to include catastrophic events as they happen globally. ALERT provides the following information, setting it apart from other such services.

Catastrophe updates

Information on current catastrophic events occurring globally in real time that go beyond meteorological data to include summaries of exposures at risk and potential impacts.

Loss estimates

For events that meet our threshold, insured loss estimates based on an event’s actual parameters calculated using Verisk extreme event models specific to the location and peril and incorporating regional factors for greater accuracy.

Event sets

Sets of customized scenarios that enable Touchstone® and Touchstone Re users to estimate losses to their own portfolios or to the industry.

Our process

Wondering if Verisk will put out an ALERT for an ongoing event? Have a question about what analytics we provide for a given peril or region? The "ALERT Posting Process and Deliverables" document covers general information about our real-time service as well as guidelines for what we’ll deliver and when, and is a valuable resource for any user of Verisk’s extreme event models and software who deals with live event response.
