Revere Tornado

The EF-2 Revere, Massachusetts, tornado struck around 10 a.m. on July 28, 2014, with maximum wind speeds estimated at 100 to 120 mph. The affected area, about 5 miles north of Boston, has myriad construction types (masonry, wood frame, concrete, steel, parked automobiles) and occupancies (residential, mercantile, retail trades, and government). The densely planted trees, which had untrimmed canopies and stood in close proximity to homes, exacerbated the impact of this event. AIR engineers surveyed the affected area the day after to assess the damage to various risks.
