South Napa Earthquake

On August 24, 2014, an M6.0 earthquake struck Northern California. Napa and Solano counties experienced significant ground shaking and structural damage, and perceived shaking ranged from severe (MMI VIII) to violent (MMI IX). In general, the observed ground motions were below design code levels extant in California today. Thus, not surprisingly, the most significant damage observed was to older unreinforced masonry buildings, especially in the historic downtown of Napa, 6 miles NNE of the epicenter.
