AIR's blog is live! After months of planning and preparation, I am thrilled to be introducing In Focus to you. We have opened this new channel of communication, not because everyone else seems to be blogging (even though they do), but because we want to initiate a great two-way channel of communication for sharing good stuff with you and building rapport.

You are the focus of In Focus. We'll post frequently about topics that are important you and that help solve some of the challenges you face. Blogging is a user-friendly way for us to provide you with industry-related news and commentary, insights into natural catastrophes and catastrophe modeling, some useful tips, and hopefully a little fun along the way.

We are serious about two-way communication and want to conduct a genuine dialogue- to hear what you have to say and to find out what you would like to hear from us. I welcome your feedback and comments and encourage you to share with us so we can share with you more effectively. I will post moderated comments and warmly encourage you to contribute to the dialogue. There are no blackboxes at AIR, and no black holes either. You will be heard.

In Focus is a natural extension of AIR's mission to deliver best-in-class products and services. It is also an expression of our values-quality, transparency, service, leading through innovation, multidisciplinary teamwork and maintaining a global view. Our mission and these values will underpin and enhance all of the material that we post.

I will be writing occasional items for In Focus, but most will be authored by subject matter experts from our teams of scientists and engineers, actuaries and statisticians, software developers and business analysts. There is a lot of great stuff for us to blog about. Our next posts will discuss the significant earthquake that struck Puerto Rico in January and scenario testing. Looking further ahead, a wide range of topics is already in queue and more will come.

Enough of me! My job now as blog editor is to stand back and let my colleagues inform and entertain you. I hope that you will enjoy In Focus as much as we do, and that you will bookmark it, share it, subscribe to it, and participate in it.
