Tsunami waves can travel at speeds of more than 800 mph

Did you know that tsunami waves can travel at speeds of more than 800 mph across the deep ocean, while remaining barely detectible to marine vessels? However, the waves slow down as they approach the shallower waters of the shore, which can result in water piling up to heights exceeding 100 feet.
