The AIR Institute Catastrophe Modeling Certification Program is a comprehensive—and intensive—course created to meet the industry’s growing need for skilled catastrophe risk modelers and managers. Students who successfully finish the course and complete the final exam are eligible to earn recognition as an AIR Institute Certified Catastrophe Modeler (AIR Institute CCM).

The program is delivered through a combination of classroom instruction, online coursework, and elective sessions. Five full days of classroom and hands-on instruction provide catastrophe risk management professionals with a more detailed understanding of the science and statistics that underlie the models and best practices for interpreting and employing model results.

Prior to attending, students must complete three online preparatory classes as well as an online assessment.  These prerequisites are designed to introduce the student to catastrophe modeling in general and AIR software in particular, and to ensure that all attendees arrive with a similar level of background knowledge.

Following the week-long classroom session, students engage in several elective sessions, which will be offered as part of an “Institute Track” at AIR Conferences, or as a series of online lecture sessions. Electives are designed to allow attendees to tailor their educational experience to suit their interests and needs, and to delve deeper into selected topics than is possible during the five days of classroom learning.

In order to finish the program and earn recognition as an AIR Institute CCM, students must complete a comprehensive final exam.
